MUMBAI - The Cotton Association of India today revised downwards its estimate for India's 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) output by 2%, or by 800,000 bales (1 bale = 170 kg), to 36.7 mln bales. The association, however, retained its forecast for consumption, exports and imports.’ As a result, the estimate for cotton inventory at the end of September has also been cut by 800,000 bales to 4.2 mln bales, the association said in its January report. The cut in production estimate comes in the wake of massive bollworm attack in Maharashtra and Telangana, which is likely to have impacted yield in some regions, an official with the association said.
