Q 1.

Sir - as per your opinion how was the budget for your cotton industry?

Ans.:

In this budget we had demanded from Finance Minister Madam for new seed technology because in this year the overall in India sowing of cotton is reduced. by 10 to 12%,if this trend continues then we feel that it will reduce more in coming years.

The cotton yield in India is lowest compare to global market yield.

i.e. Indian yield is 400 kg lint per hectare and USA is 900 kgs, Brazil is 1800 kgs and Australia is 2400 kgs per hectare.

If we discuss about income then in Indian farmers are getting Rs.90,000 per hectare, out of that Rs.40,000/- going towards expenses then they are getting near about Rs.50,000/- per hectare i.e. 1 hectare is equal to 2.5 acres,

against this Indian farmer net income of rs 50000 per hectare in USA farmers are gettingRs.2,00,000/- in Brazil Rs.4,00,000/- and in Australia Rs.5,00,000/-

if this much big difference is there in Indian farmers per hectare yield and income , compared to foreign farmers then our Indian farmers will not grow cotton crop.

This year overall cotton sowing is reduced by 10 to 12% and in North India by 40% the main reason is the farmers expenses are increased

so if new seed technology is not introduced and our Indian farmers cotton production is not increased then farmers will move to other crops.

Though the cotton production is low but MSP is higher at rs 7500 that’s why farmers is getting some income.

Q 2.

As per budget report government has announced that there will be new seed technology is introduced for 32 crops whether cotton also included in this?

Ans.:

So far Our Association has not received any update on this we are waiting for the same.

It is good if it will come otherwise it is a very big disappoint for our cotton industry.

We all cotton and textile industry people are eagerly waiting for need seed to increase our cotton production   ,

because in India we are having 4000 ginning factories and 3,000 spinning mills,

in coming days if new seed not given to us to increase our yield we feel that we will go back to year 2002 , that time we had cotton sowing area 80 to 90 lakh hectare which is increased upto 125 lakh hectares due to introduction of BT seed . We feel that slowly slowly again we are going back to 90 lakh hectares to 100 lakh hecin the coming years.  ,

In place of cotton Indian Farmers are getting good price in other crops like tuvar, groundnut and other crops since cotton yield is very less per hectare so farmers will shift to other crops as they are getting good income.

Q 3.

How you expect market from this point of view?

Ans.:

When farmers of Brazil, Australia are getting 4 times more yield and income then they can sell at low prices,

But in India cotton yield is very low so farmers cannot sell at low prices,

Indian government next season MSP is Rs.7,500/- As per MSP the cotton prices at different states costing as per out-tern will be around Rs.60,000 to Rs.70,000/- per candy.

as on today ICE future is 68 cents Indian cotton is 1800 on - the main reason is our cotton production is low and costing of Indian farmers for growing cotton is high,

May be if ice will further reduce in coming days then it looks like that our Indian basis will go up to + 2200-2300 from 1800

Thanks
