Mumbai, April 30: The Cotton Association of India (CAI) today inaugurated its Cotton Contamination Estimation Laboratory at Cotton Green, Mumbai, taking a significant step towards improving the quality and global acceptability of Indian cotton.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Mr. Vijay Kuradagi, Director (Marketing), Cotton Corporation of India, in the presence of Mr. Vinay N. Kotak, President of CAI, Mr. Bhupendra Singh Rajpal, Vice President, CAI, Mr. Atul S. Ganatra, Mentor, Mr. Rintu K. Pandya, Hon. Treasurer and Chairman of Laboratory Committee along with senior industry members, other stakeholders from across the cotton value chain.
The inauguration was marked by a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by leading representatives of trade, ginning, and textile sectors. Mr. Lalit Kumar Gupta, who was originally scheduled to inaugurate the facility, could not attend due to prior commitments.
The laboratory is the first of its kind in India and will provide scientific, objective, and standardized assessment of cotton contamination.
Industry participants welcomed the initiative, noting that it will enhance transparency, support fair trade practices, and strengthen India’s competitiveness in global cotton markets.
